Rock climbing was the perfect activity for Eric. The combination of physical skills, specialized gear and problem solving was irresistible for him. (Climbing routes are actually called "problems.") He made many trips to Bishop and climbed in the hills above Santa Barbara every chance he could. He had aspired to climb the face of Half Dome and El Capitan in Yosemite, and there's no doubt that he would have made his way up on both of those Meccas of climbing.

He loved seeing his skills improve week after week. He loved the camaraderie with other climbers and especially loved his climbing adventures with his best friend and roommate Kevin.
